Our Story
Hey there, I’m Matt — dad of four and husband to Rachel.
With a background in engineering, I’ve always been passionate about creating smarter, more efficient solutions to everyday challenges. In October of 2022, one of those challenges became painfully clear.
We were having a normal family dinner when our second daughter, Joanie (14 months old at the time), suddenly became unresponsive at the table. We didn’t know what was happening, but we feared the worst — that she was choking. Those seconds felt endless. I called 911 while Rachel performed abdominal thrusts, and finally, Joanie vomited and began to cry. She was okay, but we were left completely shaken.
In the days that followed, I couldn’t stop thinking about how stressful and time-consuming it can be to prepare safe, bite-sized food for young kids — especially with little ones who don’t want to be put down for even a second. It was clear that families needed tools designed to make mealtime safer, faster, and less overwhelming.
With my background in medical device research and manufacturing, I set out to create a family-friendly kitchen solution from the ground up. The result was Totchop — a system built around a rocker-style knife that makes chopping easy, even one-handed. Paired with a concave, non-slip cutting board, it allows you to cut multiple pieces of food at once while keeping everything stable and contained. The cutting board’s Chop ’n Pop insert pops right out for easy cleanup, and it is made with microplastic-free silicone, making snack prep smoother and safer than ever.
Whether you’re managing a busy meal prep day or holding a clingy “velcro baby” while trying to get dinner on the table, Totchop is designed to work with you, not against you. It’s a tool that gives parents peace of mind, helps kids gain independence in the kitchen, and makes cooking accessible to individuals of all abilities.
Today, Totchop has grown from a scary, life-changing moment into a mission: to redefine what safe, family-friendly cooking looks like.
Join us on this journey to make mealtimes safer, faster, and more joyful. With Totchop, snack prep doesn’t have to be stressful — it can be empowering, safe, and even fun.
